ITEM DESCRIPTION

The long range of the Whitley led to its adoption with the Coastal Command for the anti- submarine role. The GR.Mk.VII had increased fuel capacity, and extra crew member and the A8V,Mk.II radar. Used in the battle against U-boats leaving French ports for the mid-Atlantic hunting grounds, the Whitley proved itself in this role. Markings are included for aircraft Z9190 (VG.B), and EB392 (YG.R), both of 502 Squadron.
